SANcTUARY
In Spezzano we have four churches and the most important is “Santa Maria delle Grazie”. This church became a sanctuary in 1951 thanks to Father Francesco Gullo. Its origin is Basilian and it is one of the most ancient buildings dating from the XVI century. It has three naves forming a Byzantine cross. Inside the church and behind the altar there is a statue of the virgin by an unknown artist dating from the XIV century. Another statue made in Naples in 1789 is on the left side of the central nave while other important works are the stoup (XVIII), the pictures of Umberto De Maria (Saint Emidius and the deposition of Jesus Christ) both dated 1912. Above the portico of the church there are some pictures representing “St. Anthony of Padua”(1856), The Archangel Michael (1836), St. Mary of the Graces with her Child. The Tuesday after Easter is very important because it is dedicated to our Lady.
